Pete this is one of my favorite songs.

Took my kids to see you when you opened for Tom Petty in Ohio.

Great show, and went out and bought Necktie Second the next weekend.

Wishing you the best.

Pete! Really dug this version of one of my favorites on Necktie. Thank you. Also enjoyed reading the behind-the-scenes posts on Substack. Currently catching up on the Thorns. You've come a long way from Funk n Jam in G my friend! If you're around later this month would love to catch up on the 30th when we come back to Dig Deep for a two-hour set. Big fan of the stories and of course the music, keep em coming!

Hello, Pete! Thanks for turning me on to substack in general and your personal substack posts in particular. Really digging it. And, while I already own Shaken, I picked up a copy of Necktie this weekend and loving it. All my best to you and Elaine and happy anniversary to you to rock 'n roll lovebirds!!

Love it Pete, sounding really good. I bought Necktie Second a couple of weeks ago on a trip to Glasgow. Probably around the fifth time……I buy it to pass on to buddies and spread the news. Love that album. Thank you.

Thanks, Aidan! Appreciate you spreading the word about Necktie. We are hoping to release it on vinyl next year to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Fingers crossed that will happen!

Fantastic. Nailed the fret 5 capo. Soul with precision. This one's going into regular rotation.

I would have loved to have been in the car with you when you heard Straylin Street playing on the radio driving into Philly! Sonic boom for sure

Hi BroGreg- It was an amazing moment to be sure!

Straylin Street and Fourth Of July have always resonated so much with me since Necktie Second's release. Just beautiful songs all the way around.

Thanks, Scott. We'll have to record a live version of "Fourth of July" and post it on 7/4!

That would be amazing!

Such a classic song. The way you’re recording your voice and guitar is really working for you. Really great.

Thanks, Brian. This one was recorded differently than "Skeleton Crew." SC was in stereo... Straylin in mono.

Awesome song from one of the Best albums ever! Necktie Second is always in my rotation!!

Thanks, Kelley. We've been dusting off the old songs around here lately and I revisited some of the songs on Necktie and was pleasantly surprised by how much I dug them (and the album's production.) I worried that work from that long ago would make me cringe. But it did not.

Pete

Nobody comes to this game with your level of artistry if it hasn’t been baked into ‘em when they were young. No surprise you wrote this winner when you were just a kid. Strong and tender. Perfect.

One of my favorites. I've been playing it with the capo on 3. This explains why it doesn't sound quite right. Can't wait to get home now. 😂

Thanks, Brian... it's long been one of my faves too. Hope the capo adjustment bears fruit for you.

Thanks for sharing, Pete. I found my way to you through "Beautiful Girls" and your music has always spoken to me in a way that others don't. So glad you've been feeling better and are sharing these for us. It's been one of the best surprises of 2023.

Thanks, Matt. Feels great to share the music and the writing. Thanks for being here.

PS: I have a demo of "Beautiful Girls" with Matt Cameron (Soundgarden/Pearl Jam) on drums... I plan on digging that up and sharing it. Stay tuned for that.

You know that's been one of my favorites since I first heard it. I remember how great it sounded at the old 9:30 club in DC. I'd never seen the CD cover art before. Well done.

Oh, the old 9:30 club... classic. What memories! Did you happen to have your camera at any of those shows? Would be cool to see some shots if so.

Expand full comment

Yes I did but most of the pic's were in the green room. Or was it blue, anyway, I'll see what I can find.

We've got some from the dressing room in our scrapbook... it'd be really cool to dig up some live shots. Let me know what you find!
