This is the first time I’ve ever played “Fourth of July” in this key and with these guitar voicings. On the album, it’s in the key of E with a capo on the second fret. For this rendition, I dropped the key all the way down to B with a capo on the fourth fret. I always enjoy taking a song for a spin with a fresh approach.
Necktie Second is getting the double vinyl deluxe treatment this Fall. “Fourth of July” is not one of the newly recorded bonus tracks. I took a stab at it, but it did not come together. Later, perhaps I’ll share my aborted attempt here on Love Songs Etc.
I’ll be back in your inbox soon with a deep dive into the writing process for “You Called Me Kid.” Until then…
Peace & Love Songs,
Pete
One of my favorite songs off Necktie Second. Hauntingly Beautiful. I love this version. At the same time, I can hear those awesome sustained electric guitar parts during the second verse and chorus, as well as Elaine's harmony. Thinking of all our friends who felt they had no other choice.
Stunningly beautiful!
