Welcome to my 100th Substack post! Where does the time go? It seems like just yesterday I launched Love Songs Etc.
About two years ago, as I began to see light at the end of the chronic fatigue tunnel, I decided to up my newsletter game. I had a bunch of subscribers who’d signed up through a form on my website over the years, but I rarely sent anything out.
For many years, I toyed with the idea of sharing songwriting work tapes, demos, outtakes, live performance videos, and the like with my fans. I was also inspired to pull the curtain back and write about my creative process. Plus, I knew there were tales from the road and the early days that would be fun to tell.
I kicked the tires over at Patreon, but it never felt like the right fit. When I discovered Substack, I knew I’d found my ideal platform. It ticked all of the boxes.
An easy-to-use interface for creating media-rich posts? Check.
A clean, well-designed, ad-free environment for folks to enjoy said posts? Check.
Direct contact with my audience with no algorithm standing in the way? Check.
I own my email list and can take it with me if I choose to move on? Check.
A thriving community of readers and robust discovery features? Check.
The option to turn on paid subscriptions? Check.
Speaking of the latter, I’d like to take a moment to extend my heartfelt thanks to all my paid subscribers. Your support really means the world to me. I put a lot of time and effort into my posts, and frankly I would do it all for free. I love sharing this stuff with all of you. But the fact that it provides an income stream makes it all the sweeter. Thank you!
Things will heat up in 2025.
Regular readers know my new record, Fade Away Blue, has been in the can for a while now. You may have wondered what is taking so long. One reason is that it’s taken time to get the team in place to help release and promote the record. Stay tuned for news on all that.
The other reason is a secret. My lips are sealed. I will say this: I know some fans out there will be quite pleased to learn what’s on the horizon.
Anyway… thanks for coming along for the ride. I look forward to the next 100 posts.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday. I’ll be back in your inbox in a couple of weeks.
Until then…
Peace & Love Songs,
Pete
Merry Christmas to you both. Much love to you.
When you feel like doing a cover, put this in a medley with Wildflowers :)
