Well, the holiday season is in full swing. Now is the time to share my one and only original holiday song.
In the Summer of 2005, Elaine Summers and I wrote “On Christmas Day” for possible inclusion on a compilation record for Bath and Body Works. The retailer partnered with Universal Music, Sony BMG and Madacy Entertainment to create a three-CD set of holiday music.
We figured we were a long shot to be included. All of the other artists were super famous. We’re talking Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Tony Bennet, Marvin Gaye, Dean Martin, and Ella Fitzgerald, to name just a few.
The deal was for 700,000 records. You heard right. 700,000 records! At one point, we were booted off the lineup by a guy named Elvis Presley. But then, at the last minute, his estate passed, and our song stuck. Thank you, Elvis!
“On Christmas Day” also appeared on Christmas in the Northwest Volume 8, a benefit for Children’s Hospital.
I’ve posted the song to my rarities page, where paid subscribers can download their very own copy.
Peace & Love Songs,
Pete
Discovered your music through the song “Two of the Lucky Ones.” I listen to music often when writing, if I can curate songs that compliment the moods of certain characters or scenes. That song’s a mainstay. I heard this, your Christmas song, last year, and I’m not exaggerating when I say this is my favorite Christmas song—largely because it’s not just a great Christmas song, it’s simply a great song regardless of the season. It vanished from YouTube, which is where I first heard it, but I’m gonna find a way to have access to this song and hopefully support you at the same time! Beautiful work.
Have a great holiday season Pete and Elaine. Thanks for coming back to your fans. We missed you. 🙏🎄
