Thanks for the great insights into songwriting, Pete. Few songwriters are willing to open it up like that, but the process is fascinating to the rest of us. I even liked those two lines you threw out, "My world was changing fast; nobody told me that nothing lasts". How many people can relate to that!
Pete, this is a really great window into the craft of songwriting. I go thru all these steps myself, and then sometimes something different and magical happens when I actually get around to recording - perhaps some time and distance from the song pays off with a last-minute word or phrase change that really works. Though I love the stories from artists and writers about how sometimes songs fall from the ether almost complete in a matter of minutes, most of the time it's this slow, methodical construction so well described here.
I have been really digging this song AND I some lyrics of yours that somehow slipped my grasp for 30 years….He rolls like a fence post. He stands like a tire.
I love that! It keeps playing over and over in my head every day now.
Hi Brian- Glad to hear you've been digging "Kid." The response has been amazing. I'm grateful that the song is out in the world and connecting with folks.
I wrote those lyrics many moons ago... I'll have to dust that old song off and take it for a spin one of these days. Don't think I've ever played it live.
Pete this is an amazing Song. I shared it with my mom and she cried the whole time she watched it. It reminded her of her life and her Parents who she lost about 14 years ago. Keep on putting out great songs. Much love to you Pete🌏🎼🎹
Hi Brice- Thanks for the kind words. And thank you for sharing it with your mom. I'm touched to hear that she was moved by the song. That really means the world to me. Comments like this remind me why I do what I do.
