Warren Zevon was a beauty. Keep me in your heart for awhile - makes me weep like a baby. Now that love song and story for your wife is what a true Valentine is.
What a wonderful story. It always makes my heart hurt a little – in that really good way – to hear a real, true love story. Especially about a love that lasts. So beautiful. Thank you for making that real in this world, it is a gift not only for you two, but for us all.
And Reed College! That’s where I was from ’74-’79. Whereabouts did you & Elaine live?
Me, on SE 28th & Long, a really sweet, really old house – still there, an office I believe – and then SE 39th (Cesar Chavez now) & Long, across from Winchell’s & Gaffer’s Pub. The house is now apartments, the donuts long gone, the pub is a Walgreens, but the gorgeous old evergreen that would drip & drip & drip outside the window in our bedroom (also a deep forest green, thanks to whoever lived there before) is there still, I believe.
Oh and the love of my life back then who I lived in those houses with? He's long married, though not to me. A good thing, as it turned out.
Love to you & Elaine, Pete, from this friend you’ve never met. Yet!
I am a friend of Ward Serrill (was going to be the producer for his EMERALD GREEN, and loved your song for that) and of course of Dolly, too! We live pretty close to each other. So if & when you come to visit him one day, we will surely meet.
And 39th & Woodstock, yep. On the way to the Disco Mart – though that may be before your & Elaine's time there. Sweet neighborhood, with all those trees. And the Reed campus, the canyon…! I love Portland, then & now.
Looking forward to whatever you will be sharing with us!
Ah yes… Ward is great. And a dear friend. I was super excited about Emerald Green. Thanks for your support of that project! It was a joy writing that song. I look forward to the time it can see the light of day. As soon as I’m up for it I want to come to PT and play a show. When I do we’ll be sure to get together.
I’ve been banking material to share here. Lots more to come. Thanks for being here.
I love this story. In the early years that we used to go watch you and the Sinners play, you would often introduce her as your “friend”, Elaine Summers, and in those days we wondered if she was just your friend, but hoped that she was more than that because you both seemed so perfect for each other. Happy Valentine’s Day, Pete and Elaine. I am so happy you are feeling well enough to share your joy with us, again! 🥰
Hi Pete. It really moved me to tears your story about your relationship with Elaine. It mirrored my relationship with my wife of now 40 years! You are obviously a very caring and honest person which is the reason I subscribed to your original newsletter and just love your songs and albums. Thank you for making our world and lives a lot better in this very trying time on earth. Yours, Rex Bond NZ
Thanks, BroGreg. Somehow this song slipped thru the cracks. I'm happy to have Substack where I can share outtakes like this. Happy Valentine's Day to you!
It's amazing how much I don't know about my own sister. I thought I was supposed to be the rock star in the family. Oh well, I have to admit, she's the greatest and I love her to death. Love the story. It should be a movie. Happy Valentine's Day to you both.
Good stuff, Pete! Happy Valentine's Day to you and Elaine. Nothing better than love in our world. We're on 30 years together, 23 married, ourselves. Much love to you both today!
Amazing song about an amazing love story❤️
Thanks, Jo! Glad you are digging the song and the story.

Love and Peace to you both.
Love and Peace to you too. Warren's music was a gift... especially that song.

Thanks, Jen. We used to joke and call each other "special friend"... a reference to Spinal Tap.
It's great to see you here! Happy Valentine's Day to you too.
