I’ve made a habit of sharing new music on the New Moon. Today, I’m sharing a video performance of my latest single, “Lonely Mama.” Find the song on streamers here.
A limited edition 45 rpm 7” colored vinyl single is available now on Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready’s HockeyTalkter Records. But you probably already knew that.
I recorded this version of “Lonely Mama” as a pre-production sketch as I was refining my guitar approach and vocal phrasing. This was around the time that I recorded what would become the basic track for the record version. Read about the recording of the track in this post from March 29, 2024.
I triple-tracked the voice and guitar into ProTools. Like on the record, the guitar and voice were captured together on one mic, a Shure SM7. Just for the heck of it, I rolled video.
If you are familiar with the record version, you’ll notice some subtle differences. In this take, there is one less line at the end of the bridge. And unlike the record, the bridge repeats to end the song. Also, the guitar phrases between vocal lines are a little different from those on the record.
I hope you enjoy this video.
In other news, the Vashon Center for the Arts show is now in the rearview. Here is the setlist.
It was a magical night if I do say so myself… and I do! The minute Elaine Summers and I walked on stage we were met with thunderous applause. We could feel the love instantly and that set the tone for the evening.
The crowd was a beautiful mix of our friends and neighbors from Vashon Island and folks who traveled from far and wide to be in attendance. People trekked from Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Kansas, Ohio, Virginia, Delaware, Vermont, Canada and even Amsterdam!
I worked up some humorous banter to open the show and the crowd laughed heartily in all the right places. We were off to a great start. As we kicked into “Brakeman” the sound on stage was perfect. (Thanks, Martin Feveyear!) And my guitar was in tune. (Thanks, Andy McCulla!) I was in good voice and found it easy to settle in and relax into the music. Both sets flew by in a flash. Before we knew it we were enjoying a standing ovation and playing our encore.
The stage looked amazing thanks to the stunning art installation by Vashon artist Terri Fletcher. Thanks, Terri, Geoff Fletcher, Elaine and Robin for all the effort that went into setting that up!
I thoroughly enjoyed hanging out in the lobby after the show. It was a treat to meet a bunch of you Substack subscribers in real life.
Let me know in the comments how the show hit you if you were there.
Peace & Love Songs,

Pete,
How it is that through many years, great artists, such as yourself, are able to winnow, reduce, and pare down, so that the net effect is the polar opposite: Work through its sheer simplicity alludes to — everything? Magical. And let me add that your time and groove on that guitar makes you one of the all time great drummers. Take note guitarists!
Nicely done, Pete. Lovely song-
