FADING FAST 05 - Live at Home (4-Track Cassette Video)
Plus, David Fricke & Tom Petty Radio! A few words about the recent tour! And snapshots from the road!
I’M ON THE TOM PETTY RADIO!
I enjoyed a wide-ranging conversation with legendary music journalist David Fricke last week at the SiriusXM radio studios in New York City. And I performed “You Called Me Kid” live.
The interview and performance will air on The Friday Night Rock & Roll Affair on SiriusXM’s Tom Petty Radio this Friday, September 26 at 8pm ET / 5pm PT.
Also on Tom Petty Radio, keep an ear out for my Last DJ Show appearance, which will air beginning on October 6.
FADING FAST - LIVE AT HOME!
I filmed this 4-track cassette version of Fade Away Blue’s “Fading Fast” a while back, but wanted to save it until the record was out. Having just returned from dates on the East Coast, now feels like a great time to share this song about life on the road.

THAT’S A WRAP!
I’m back at home, still buzzing from five splendid shows on the East Coast. (Photos below.)
Elaine Summers and I had a blast on this run of dates. We savored every minute. It felt amazing to be back out on the open road, living out of a suitcase, finding good food, and, of course, bringing the music to the people.
Those 80 or 90 minutes on stage were pure bliss. The sound on stage at four of the five gigs was outstanding, making it a joy to play and sing. When you can hear yourself clearly, you can really sink into the songs and get into the subtlest nuances of phrasing and dynamics. As for the gig where the stage sound sucked, at least we heard that it sounded great out front. Folks heaped healthy doses of praise upon us, so I think we still managed to put on a good show despite it feeling like an uphill climb.
Equally blissful were the conversations with audience members after our sets. I’m grateful for the chance to connect with listeners and hear what my music has meant to them.
PNW, YOU’RE NEXT!
So now I’m back on the island, looking forward to a handful of dates in the Pacific Northwest.
Next up, we’ll celebrate the deluxe double vinyl reissue of Necktie Second1 with a show at Seattle’s Triple Door on Friday, October 10. Initially, I had announced that this would be a full-band show, but unfortunately, I am unable to pull that off at this time. We’ll make that happen another time.
Then we’re off to Oregon for half a dozen appearances.

Necktie Second Deluxe reissue LP release details coming VERY soon. Stay tuned to this space.

Thanks for the five minutes of bliss (listening and reading). I really love the arrangement of that song. I've never been able to learn the technical side of music, but the way the brief silences feel like their own notes being played is so moving. And another great example of how you write lyrics that invite listeners to connect with universal emotions by delving into really specific personal details.
Awesome pictures and a beautiful recording of Fading Fast.
