I just remembered my childhood moment where I was at the opening for a new chicken fast food restaurant with my parents. I must have been 8 or 9 years old at the time, but I remember it vividly. I remember that it felt very off to me at the time that they would make such a circus about opening this food place. It was a small stage on the edge of an underground shopping center, some loud moderators trying to motivate the crowd with some name dropped: "Pete Droge". Who? I had to chuckle, because "Droge" means drug in German. I didn't get it why someone would have such a name. Why is this person here, and what is that movie they talk about even. I remember there was a raffle, I remember me and my parents were hovering around that area to wait for the raffle drawing. I also remember one of the questions on the raffle ticket was "What's the name of that dude who's gonna perform here soon?". I didn't win anything. Then someone played music. I remember your hat! But the vibe was very off in that place, the performance didn't click with the audience and we left soon. But I remember you, and in that moment I somehow understood on a subconcious level what type of shit that opening gig was.

This memory stayed with me since then and rarely I remind myself what had happened. As you describe it, it must have been an awful trip, inconsiderate people. But If you can take one more thing away from this day is, that you will be forever remembered by me from that daytime event! You definately survived that chicken fast food restaurant (went bancrupt and closed down like 10 years later).

I was just having breakfast in it's place and remembered those moments, discussing it with a friend. Mentioning your "funny" last name. We looked for proof that I was right, and here are you writing a blog post about this trip even. I was very happy to have read it from your perspective.

Cheers and greetings from Graz! :)

Robbb- I can't tell you how much I love seeing this comment! Thank you so much for sharing all this. It's amazing to know that the day is seared in someone else's memory banks too. I'd like to share your comment in a follow-up post. Would that be okay with you?

Hey Pete, it would be an honor if you'd use my story for it! It's indeed a very strange thing that this was in my memory for such a long time and love it as well that we take away positive things from it decades later.

Is there anything I can do to help? I live near that "square" you performed at and can send some pictures of that area if it helps with your post.

Cheers, Rob!

Laughing out loud Pete, and I’m not in a particularly jocular mood at the moment. Less than an hour ago the lid of a giant trash can fell down on my head. I think I’m shorter by an inch or so. That’s to say, your piece was good enough to make me chuckle; even at my new height.

I can relate. I can so relate.
