BRAKEMAN (Rehearsal Tape)

On May 24th—Bob Dylan’s 84th birthday—I was goofing around with my new looper pedal and stumbled upon an interesting new feel and vocal approach for “Brakeman.”

This little sketch was recorded on my phone. It’s a pretty cool sound with my looped guitar parts playing through my 1962 Fender Tremolux amp, and the live guitar also getting picked up by the phone’s mic, with my living room adding a touch of ambience.

This song goes way back to the Ramadillo days. Back then, it was called “Get A Job” and had a more straightforward country feel. You can hear a snippet of Ramadillo’s take on the song tacked onto the end of this version below from 1996’s Find A Door album.

The Sinners really shine on this track. We’d been touring our butts off and were firing on all cylinders at the time. This is old school Rock and Roll. No click track. Cut on 2” analog tape. Mixed to 1/2” analog tape.
