Here is a quick update on how the new album is shaping up. In this post from April 29, 2024, I talked about cutting my basic tracks here in my studio and shipping them off to my co-producer, Paul Bryan, in Los Angeles for drum overdubs with Jay Bellerose. Those sessions were a dream. Jay delivered pure magic, as usual. And Paul captured said magic with great skill. Here is a snapshot of the kit all mic’d up.
After getting the drums down, we hit pause while Paul got busy with the release of his excellent new LP, Western Electric. The album features Jay and acclaimed saxophonist Josh Johnson. Bass Magazine calls the record “An adventurous mix of the spontaneous groove and studio wizardry.” Read the review here.
While waiting for Paul’s schedule to clear, I listened to our rough mixes over and over, getting more excited about the tracks with each listen. Earlier this week, Paul brought his bass-playing mastery into the fold. Now that the bass has been completed, we are turning our attention to ‘pre-mixing.’ The idea is to get the foundational tracks of drums, bass, guitars and vocals sounding solid before moving on and adding more elements. During this phase, Paul and I are bouncing ideas around about who and what to bring to the party.
Stay tuned to this space for more as the project develops.

Thanks for sharing, Pete! It must be so exciting for you to be back at it. And, just the thought of a new album for us fans is so awesome! Please keep the updates coming!
I'll be ready to get a copy! (Used to play with a guy who had that same kit, silver '60s Ludwig.)
