It’s the New Moon, and that means new music. This time, a song from Deerfrance featuring my Uncle Rich on guitar. Below, I share my favorite song from their recent release, The Sad Electronic NOW. You can hear the whole record on a digital platform near you. Or better yet, pick it up on vinyl. Plus, I share a track from Rich’s yet-to-be-named new project with Ron Young of Little Caesar and Cruzados fame.
Rich T, as he is known, is my birth mother’s younger brother by twelve years. That makes him only eight years older than me. He feels more like the cool older brother type than an uncle. Connecting with him—and the rest of my birth family—has been the greatest blessing I could hope for. I’m well aware that adoptees don’t always have such luck. Grateful! Grateful! Grateful!
Before we get to the music, check out SHOPTALK 008, where I catch up with Uncle Rich and hear about his new record as well as his days in the New York City music scene of the ‘80s.
It was fun to hear about Rich’s musical endeavors. His musical family tree includes a host of luminaries. One of his albums was produced by none other than Lenny Kaye of Patti Smith Group fame! And his bandmate Deerfrance worked with John Cale of the Velvet Underground and Tom Verlaine of Television.
We did not get into his time in Milwaukee, where he played with Louie Lucchesi and met drummer Bo Conlon of The Bodeans. Bo plays with Deerfrance along with bassist Kai Eric of Panther Burns fame.
Without further ado, here is SHOPTALK 008.
Please enjoy “Lazy Heart” by Deerfrance.
And here is “Everything is Easy” from Rich and Ron Young’s yet-to-be-named project. Ron’s band Little Caesar was signed by legendary A&R man John Kalodner to DGC/Geffen Records in 1989. Ron is also in the new lineup of The Cruzados.

How lovely. And a fun piece of evidence to that epic debate of nature vs. nurture. Is that talent in your genes? Perhaps.
Guess music does run in the blood. Very cool story.
