Here's a fly-on-the-wall video of me recording electric piano on my forthcoming single, "Rooftop." Street date: 06/02/23. Paid subscribers have early access to the single HERE.
The camera recorded the audio in this clip, so it's not the full sonic picture, but if you listen carefully, you can hear the song pretty well.
Almost all of what I'm playing here ended up on the cutting room floor. In the final mix, it only plays under the words "stardust in the light."
This is not unusual. Editing is a huge part of record-making. Overdubbing a part and having it not fit? Happens all the time. This is especially true when looking for the very last element to make a track feel complete.
As I listen to this now, I'm not entirely sure why I did not pursue the electric piano further. It sounds pretty cool. It probably would have sounded amazing turned in reverse. And with echo. But since I am completely happy with the final instrumentation of the record, I suppose that ultimately I made the right call to leave it out.
GEAR TALK:
I'm playing my vintage Wurlitzer 200A with a Wilson Effects wah-wah pedal going into an API 3124+ preamp.
Peace & Love Songs,
Pete
